The reason gaming companies must sell so many game modes & in-game levels is that in the real world, the chances of climbing through the levels of success, fitness, wealth, etc are hard work, and even then there is the likely chance you would fail. Who would buy a game knowing that failure is inevitable and sometimes a constant no matter how hard you try!
The gaming and the virtual world are great and designed to help us distract ourselves from the harsh realities of the real world. Gamers have the choice to choose how they play and there are plenty of shortcuts, and then there is the option of 'Pay To Win' but in real life, there are very few silver spoons being handed out
No one can just hand you a fit mind and body, the career ladder extracts blood, sweat, and tears by the bucket, and it's hard work for sure to ensure you don't squander inherited wealth and then there is 'lucky wealth' a .000000001% probability you will ever win the lottery :-)
